Discover Hunza & Gilgit – A Journey Through Pakistan’s Majestic North

Gilgit – The Gateway to the Karakoram

Once a crucial staging point on the ancient Silk Route, Gilgit has been influenced by various invading cultures and remained part of the Buddhist Kingdom from the 3rd to 11th century. Today, this thriving city serves as the capital of Northern Pakistan, forming a key junction for travelers exploring the Gilgit-Baltistan region.

Nestled along the Karakoram Highway, Gilgit is a hub for adventurers, trekkers, and culture enthusiasts. Tourists often stop here to rest, shop, and prepare for treks into the surrounding mountains. The city offers breathtaking views of Rakaposhi Peak (7,788m) and Domani Peak (6,143m), making it a must-visit destination for nature lovers and photographers.

Hunza – The Valley of Legends

Despite centuries of contact with the outside world, Hunza Valley retains an air of mystical isolation. Buddhism first spread to China via Hunza around 200 AD, and over the centuries, it has witnessed the passage of Turks, Mongols, Afghans, Timurids, Dogras, and Chinese, who journeyed through as pilgrims, traders, and adventurers.

Stretching along the west bank of the Hunza River, 110 km north of Gilgit, this scenic valley offers a breathtaking mountain panorama. The region is a dream destination for climbers, trekkers, and hikers, with plenty of sightseeing opportunities and cultural experiences.

A key stop on the journey is the Rakaposhi Viewpoint, where travelers can witness the magnificent Rakaposhi Peak (7,788m), the 29th highest mountain in the world.

Hopar Valley – A Hidden Gem of Nagar

The Hopar Valley, part of the legendary Nagar Valley, is often called the Shangri-La of Northern Pakistan. Located 10 km from Nagar Khas, this enchanting valley is home to Spantik and Hopar Glaciers, offering a stunning contrast of snow-capped peaks and ice rivers.

Surrounded by a cluster of traditional villages, Hopar provides a gateway to high-altitude treks into the Hispar Muztagh, one of the most spectacular subranges of the Karakoram Mountains. The valley’s untouched beauty and adventure-filled trails make it a paradise for hikers, explorers, and nature lovers.
