K2 Circular Trek – The Ultimate Adventure Through the Karakoram

The K2 Circular Trek is an unparalleled adventure that takes you through the heart of the Karakoram Range, with the thrilling ascent of the 5,650m high Gondogoro La Pass. This breathtaking route enhances the classic K2 Base Camp trek, offering a spectacular return via the picturesque Hushe Valley.

If the weather is in your favor, the panoramic views from Gondogoro La are unmatched anywhere in the world. Nowhere else can you witness such a breathtaking 360° view of K2 (8,616m)—the world’s second-highest peak—alongside the majestic Broad Peak (8,048m), Gasherbrum I to VI, the Golden Throne (7,240m), Chogolisa (7,665m), and the entire upper Baltoro Massif.

This challenging trek requires a high level of physical fitness, as weather conditions can be unpredictable, making the Gondogoro La crossing both demanding and rewarding. The recommended route begins from Askole, leading to Concordia, where trekkers can marvel at the Baltoro Peaks. In case of heavy snow or extreme weather, the return can follow the same path.

Day 1: Arrival in Islamabad

  • Land in Islamabad, Pakistan’s capital.
  • Transfer to hotel & trek briefing.
  • Explore local attractions (Faisal Mosque, Pakistan Monument).

Day 2: Fly to Skardu or Drive via Karakoram Highway

  • Option 1: Scenic flight to Skardu (weather dependent).
  • Option 2: Drive from Islamabad to Chilas via Karakoram Highway (10-12 hrs).

Day 3: Free Day in Skardu or Drive from Chilas

  • If in Skardu: Explore Shigar Fort, Satpara Lake, and local bazaars.
  • If in Chilas: Drive to Skardu, witnessing Nanga Parbat & Indus River views.

Day 4: Jeep Drive to Askole (3,000m)

  • 7-8 hour off-road adventure through the Braldu Gorge.
  • Final supply checks before trekking begins.

Day 5: Trek from Askole to Jhula (3,200m)

  • Trek along the Braldu River, passing glaciers and scenic valleys.
  • Night stay at Jhula Campsite.

Day 6: Jhula to Paiju (3,400m)

  • Hike through Karakoram landscapes, reaching the lush green Paiju campsite.
  • First full view of Baltoro Glacier & Trango Towers.

Day 7: Acclimatization & Rest at Paiju

  • Optional short hikes & preparations for glacier trekking.
  • Enjoy breathtaking views of towering rock spires.

Day 8: Trek from Paiju to Khoburtse (3,800m)

  • Walk along Baltoro Glacier with stunning views of Uli Biaho & Trango Towers.
  • Night camping at Khoburtse.

Day 9: Trek from Khoburtse to Urdukas (4,050m)

  • Spectacular glacier trek with up-close views of Great Trango Tower & Lobsang Spire.

Day 10: Trek to Goro II (4,300m)

  • Enter the heart of the Karakoram, passing Masherbrum & Gasherbrum IV.

Day 11: Trek to Concordia (4,600m) – The Throne Room of the Gods

  • Witness the best views of K2 (8,616m), Broad Peak, and Gasherbrum peaks.
  • Overnight at Concordia, one of the world’s most spectacular campsites.

Day 12: K2 Base Camp Excursion (5,150m) or Rest at Concordia

  • Optional day trek to K2 Base Camp & Gilkey Memorial.
  • Return to Concordia for overnight stay.

Day 13: Trek from Concordia to Ali Camp (5,000m)

  • Prepare for the Gondogoro La crossing, with breathtaking glacier views.

Day 14: Gondogoro La (5,650m) Crossing to Khuspang (4,600m)

  • Most challenging day: early morning ascent of Gondogoro La.
  • Enjoy panoramic views of K2, Broad Peak, Gasherbrum range & Chogolisa.
  • Descend to Khuspang campsite in Hushe Valley.

Day 15: Trek from Khuspang to Saicho (3,350m)

  • Easier trek through the lush Hushe Valley, passing rivers & pastures.

Day 16: Trek to Hushe Village & Drive to Skardu

  • Final short trek to Hushe Village, followed by a jeep ride to Skardu.

Day 17: Free Day in Skardu or Contingency for Weather Delays

  • Explore Shigar Valley, Deosai National Park, & Skardu Bazaar.

Day 18: Fly to Islamabad or Drive via Karakoram Highway

  • Option 1: Scenic flight to Islamabad.
  • Option 2: Drive from Skardu to Chilas (if flight is unavailable).

  • Travel through the Himalayas & Karakoram Highway.
