Nanga Parbat Rupal Face Trek – The Killer Mountain Expedition
Nanga Parbat, meaning “Naked Mountain” in Sanskrit, stands as Pakistan’s second-highest peak (8,125m) and the ninth-highest in the world. It is also known as Diamir, meaning “Abode of Fairies,” with local legends speaking of a queen living in a crystal-ice palace, guarded by giant snow serpents.
Unlike the Karakoram Range, Nanga Parbat marks the westernmost boundary of the Himalayas, separated by the mighty Indus River. Its Rupal Face, the world’s highest mountain face (5,000m), offers a breathtaking yet challenging trek through lush meadows, glaciers, and towering cliffs.
Nanga Parbat – The Killer Mountain
Nicknamed “Killer Mountain” due to its deadly history, Nanga Parbat has claimed more climbers than any other 8,000m peak. Early German expeditions faced multiple tragedies, including a 1937 avalanche that buried 30 climbers and Sherpas. The mountain was first conquered in 1953 by Hermann Buhl in a grueling 41-hour solo ascent.
Legendary climber Reinhold Messner completed the first ascent of Rupal Face in 1970 but tragically lost his brother on the Diamir Face descent.
